Dark and Light

I love when things in the natural world teach us about eternal things. I was out walking with a friend just as the sun was about to rise, and it was hard to distinguish if a shadow was an animal or just a shadow. As we walked along, I was thinking to myself that our eyes can play tricks on us when we there isn’t quite enough light. Then it hit me, that God created our eyes in such a way that we aren’t supposed to see in the dark. Not only are we not supposed to see natural objects when it’s dark out, but God doesn’t want us seeing those things that are dark, as in, those things that are part of the darkness of this world.

Colossians 1:13-14 states, “[The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have our redemption through His blood, [which means] the forgiveness of our sins.” When we are born again, we leave the darkness and move into His light. Before salvation, we were blind but ignorant that we couldn’t see. When Christ comes into our dark place, He gives us sight and enables us to see eternal things we couldn’t see before. He doesn’t want us seeing those dark things anymore. He desires that we not be polluted with anything having to do with darkness because He loves us.

1 John 1:5 also says, “And this is the message [the message of promise] which we have heard from Him and now are reporting to you: God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him at all [no, not in any way]. Also in John 1: “And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has never overpowered it [put it out or absorbed it or appropriated it, and is unreceptive to it].” As the sun began to shine a dim light onto the path where we walked, slowly we could see more and more of what was around us. Darkness has to flee before the light! God doesn’t want us messing around in the darkness. His light is much stronger than any darkness of the world. If you want to see what’s going on in the spiritual realm, look to Him who is light and His light will show you a reality you cannot see without Him. His light will give you the wisdom you couldn’t get by your own effort. His light will lead you places you could never find on your own. His light will lead you away from dark things. We were made to walk in His light, not to walk in darkness!
