Our good!

Romans 8:28 states: “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

It struck me that this verse has become the catch-all verse when things don’t go right, hence it’s taken on a negative connotation. I admit I go to that verse mostly when things don’t go as planned. I thought about it further, and realized that it says God works ALL things together for our good – not just the struggles or closed doors! He works the good things together for our good too. He works those things that seem to live in the grey areas of life, things we don’t understand or don’t see clearly – yet. He doesn’t see things as we do – as in, this is good or that is bad, etc. He sees everything as good because He works it so much together that it is always bringing good to us.

The Amplified says:  “We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.”  And the Passion says it this way: “So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.”

His ways are higher than our ways. The next time something doesn’t go right for you, in the way that you think it ought to have gone, and you go to this verse for comfort, know that yes indeed it will comfort you to know God is upstream already weaving it all together for your good. And if things are going great for you, know that God is also working those great things together for even more good for your life! Rest in His ability to do everything and supply everything you need for every detail of your life.
