I have run across many people asking about who Jesus is and I wanted to write out the core of the gospel!
Jesus – all that He is is hard to contain in just our human language. He is God – the Son in the trinity of Father, Son, and Spirit. He came to fulfill the Father’s love for us in saving us from our sins. He did that by taking all our sin upon Himself at the cross. He took the punishment we deserved so that we could live in heaven for eternity with Him.
Our salvation is the reason He came to earth. Think of it this way: if you had committed a crime and the sentence was death and you went to prison to await your death sentence. Then someone came along and asked permission to serve your sentence for you. You were let go free and the other person went to his death. That is in essence what Jesus did for you and for all of us. He legally paid for us to walk free from sin and death. And not only that, He gave us the gift of right standing with God which the Bible calls righteousness. Not only were you set free from the prison of sin, but now you have the gift of being eternally right with the Father because of what Jesus did for you! He took all your sin and died with your sin BUT then rose again – proof that all our sins were done away with forever.
All we need do is believe that this happened and that’s what God calls salvation. When you believe in what Jesus did for you, and don’t believe or trust in your own efforts to make you good enough or pure, but instead you rest on what Jesus did at the cross, you are eternally saved!
You may already understand the gospel, but in today’s world, the truth of what Christ did on the cross can get overshadowed. Romans 1:16-18 states, “For I am not ashamed of the Gospel (good news) of Christ, for it is God’s power working unto salvation [for deliverance from eternal death] to everyone who believes with a personal trust and a confident surrender and firm reliance, to the Jew first and also to the Greek, For in the Gospel a righteousness which God ascribes is revealed, both springing from faith and leading to faith [disclosed through the way of faith that arouses to more faith].”
May the Holy Spirit reveal more of Jesus to you today and beyond!
